sorry if this is the wrong section...

friday night...i was messing around in the bios trying to find out how to put a 'power on password' on so youd need to enter the password for the pc to even boot up
i found something that i thought was it so i changed Power-On to Password
then i went to the option under the power on and typed in a password
i saved it and booted up 20mins later i shut the PC down cuz i was goin somewhere
before i left i brought an air compressor in my room so i could blow off my tile and whatnot
after i got done with that there was some air left in the tank
so i figure..the inside of my PC is dusty so i open it up and i start shooting air in it shot a little in my psu to...then i leave and come back like a day later push the power button on my PC and nothing happens
i cleared the bios cuz i figured i screwed with something that wasnt suppose to be messed with
that didnt work
ive ran out of options...when i plug the power cord into the psu theres a little red light that lights up on my mobo..it always does it so its gettin power
i yanked all the pins off the front panel connector and tryed the power switch on every pin... still wouldnt come on

nothing turns on...the only thing thats on is that little red light..and thats always on...none of the fans spin.. none of the fan lights come on

did air break my PC?

someone eles asked me...
what possessed you to use an air compressor?
answer: i dont know my pc was dusty so i figure air would be better then a paintbrush? hell if i no

someone told me i fryed my mobo with static...so i looked into a new mobo
someone eles told me i need a new psu if nothing turns on...looked into psu's
found a new mobo and psu..what do i need a new psu or mobo?

the 2 hd's i had in the pc still work...maybe when i post this ill hook the psu upto another pc and see if it works

So when you press the power button, nothing at all happens? Have you tried by just using a screwdriver to short the 2 power switch pins (you know, to short the 2 pins the power switch goes on)?

Have you tried running the motherboard outside of the case to make sure nothing is shorting out?

i just hooked the psu upto another pc and it works...

and no i havnt tryed using a screwdriver on teh power switch...how would i go about doin that
take the button out of the case..rip the actual button off and touch the ends with a screwdriver...when its hooked up of course

yea ive ran the mobo outside of the case...it looks and smells normal to me

no... This is only if you suspect there's something wrong with the power switch itself, and nothing else.

You know the 2 little wires with the plastic thing in the end that hook up to the motherboard from the case? Well, you know the 2 pins on the motherboard they hook up to? Just make a bridge between them for a second with the screwdriver, and it should power on (it's doing the same thing the switch does). Just make contact between the 2 pins, and let the screwdriver go, and see if it does anything to power on...

You're "run" it outside of the case? You mean you've tried powering it on while outside of the case? If not, you should try it to make sure it's not the motherboard shorting on the case while it's on...

Anyway, I wouldn't try these things if you don't feel comfortable, and it doesn't sound like you are. Did you build this PC yourself? Anyway, good luck.

no you unplug the cable coming from the power switch that goes into your mobo. then the 2 pins it was plugged inot short that with a screwdriver. just make sure not to touch any other pins.

there could be something wrong with the switch
when i first got the PC i always had trouble turning the PC on...like id hit the button..the fans and whatnot would come on but nothing eles..the hd's and cdroms would stay off
so id have to push and hold the botton..and keep doing it till the PC came on
that went on for months..it still happens every now n then but it usually comes on with i push of the button now
1 night it took over 50 trys to get it to work...

i built the pc myself...last xmas...ive ran it outside of the case

ill give the screwdriver deal a shot

screwdriver didnt work

i tryed it out a few times on some old pc i have layin around and it worked on it but not the 'broke' PC

so what do i need..psu or mobo

You said you hooked the PSU up to another computer and it worked right? That would tell you that the PSU is fine.

Well, if you know everything's connected properly (especially CPU fan on the motherboard header), and you know the PSU works on another computer, then I guess that rules out the PSU and puts some suspicion into the motherboard... I don't like to claim to be sure when I haven't even seen the system, but I'd put some money on it... Just for fun, I'd swap parts out and reseat the CPU, but if it's not doing anything at all when you flick the power switch, it might all be in vain.
