So as some of you may know, i bought my system as a whole for cheap
(Only thing I changed was case, I also added in my old sound card, and a new ssd) only thing I need to upgrade is my monitor

but I keep saying to myself Nvidia is better for movie (qualitywise using mpchc/vlc) and photoshop cause of purevideo HD and CUDA cores.. is it noticeable?

i'm just being paranoid right? i was going to just sell my 6850 OC and save up for a gtx 580 used or something.. Monitorwise, i'm still deciding between an 23" or 27" but definitely IPS panel

other than me thinking i'm paranoid, the computer is phenomenal performance wise, and it's silent enough, although because i'm paranoid and ocd about sound i'm going to swap out a few fans later

So what is the problem? If you do enough work in photoshop, then yes the CUDA accelerations will be noticeable, but if you do not then no; it wont really matter.

well photoshopwise, i'm being ocd, but what about videoquality when watching dvds/br/avi/mkv/mpeg?

No discernible difference, you're being OCD. Is there something about it that makes you think that way?

The monitor has more to do with that picture quality than the GPUs from your stand point. Unless you get that calibrated, you wont notice a difference. Even then, I doubt you'll notice anything.

nope.. just want the best of everything basically, and it bothers me thats all (which is why i changed my case, it came damaged when i bought the computer, and it kept annoying me)

Which is why i keep thinking if i get 2 more sticks of ram so i can have 4 x 4gb sticks i might get better performance (which i doubt)

same with the little fan noises in my computer, its fairly quiet, but i like it to be dead silent.

sure is a pain in the butt.

thanks. viewsonic doesn't support my crt any more (64 bit drivers) and i'm selling my TV.. i tried using it as a monitor, but 42" is a little close, not to mention the ghosting, and pixel density gets a little annoying.. Calibrationwise, i have it planned, actually my crt is calibrated, but its starting to go (ripples and blurs, etc) now i just have to decide on a 23" IPS or a 27" ips (Most likely a catleap if I go this route)

what do you recommend?

I didn't notice any difference going from AMD -> nVidia, but I've heard more stories that AMD "looks better" compared to nVidia. With respect to watching any kind of video, the performance will be identical as well.

About monitors, if pixel density bothers you the 27 inch IPS screen has better pixel density than a 23/24 inch one (109 vs 96/92) but you probably couldn't tell the difference. However, if any tiny thing bothers you a lot then it seems very risky to get the Korean IPS monitors since their panels often have a tiny flaw somewhere (personally, mine is 100% perfect but you can't count on that).

AMDs drivers allow for far more tinkering with video quality. Unfortunately a lot of it is digital noise reduction style crap, which you really shouldn't be using much of anyway. I have mosquito noise reduction at like 20%, personally. To me, there is a vast difference in default color quality between nvidia and amd, with amd being superior. You can probably get similar results that would require a great deal of tinkering with nvidia settings. (There is the possibility of blowing certain colors out into neon like glow though and not getting comparable quality). To me the default nvidia settings look washed out. Photoshop CS6 can use open CL now, which means amd cards accelerate Photoshop perfectly fine.

sounds great guys, how do i enable opencl in PS with my amd card?

sn0_man i thought and thought, i think the korean ips is the best bang for the buck, with a different stand of course, which one did you get? qualitywise, i have an uncle in korea so he can check the pixels for me
