Hi Guys

I want to save an extra $50 on the cheap P5B Vanilla board insted of the Deluxe modell, Since I want to overclock using an E6400 and the paried Corsair TWIN2X2048-6400 I'm I just playing stupid for not going with the deluxe modell or could I actually press the CPU to, say 2.8ghz using the P5B vanilla version and stock cooler?

I guess your answer will be, If you want to be sure to get 2.8mhz buy the deluxe modell, right?

Get the P5B-E if you can. It's $150 on Newegg and if you pay with Paypal before the 15th you can get free shipping by entering PAYPALFREE in the promotional code bos.

Well the P5B-E has about the same price as P5B Deluxe here in sweden

Yes. Oh wait, I just read the subject ;) Just kiddin, hey you in Stockholm? I was there in April.

What about the Gigabyte DS3. It overclocks very well too.

About the same price as P5B-E/Deluxe here in south sweden.
I read alot of issues with that board too but it's getting better with newer bioses releases... as with P5B vanilla.

If I want to save some cash I should buy the P5B vanilla but I feel I will be screwed when trying to OC with it. No extreme OC but atleast 2.8mhz with stockcooling.

I don't need the extra fancy features deluxe got, like dual NIC's, crossfire, etc.
The advantage to Deluxe is that it got nordbridge cooling and better vDimm, right? And general more stable I guess from the Overclocking highets clockers thread.

I'm I still stupid trying to save an extra $50 on the Deluxe or will it come back to me?

Personally, I'd go for the P5B-E or the DS3.
If the P5B Deluxe is about the same price at the 2 above then you might as well get it.

I would NOT get the P5B vanilla. Results are too inconsistent. It might work out if you have a good chip, good ram, & good northbridge. But there's a lot more chance of things not working if you get the vanilla.

I have the P5B-E and it OC's quite easily. I'm sure I could get another 200mhz out of my processor (400/401 fsb), but I don't know if my RAM can handle it. My temps are a little high too because my ambient temp is pretty hot (80-85F).

So anyway I highly recommend the P5B-E. Don't they sell the P5B-E Plus in Europe?
