I used to run a iMac 24" it was not an amazing computer but it did everything I asked it to. Recently the logic board went and it was out of warranty, I was not willing to drop 900 bucks on the machine to fix it (Apple can be dumb sometimes). Luckily I sold the machine on craigslist for 500 bucks as is. Anyways I am currently using a machine out of the attic that is a 2004 Dell P4 1.5gb of DDR2 this thing is terrible and I cant stand it. The dilemma is do I build new machine now or wait till the new year ( I don't know if I can wait .....) What would you do?

1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc

All of the above (gaming such as MW Black Ops, League of Legends, TF2, any new big games that come out, Adobe Master Collections CS5.

2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?

I have not set a budget but I don't want to really go over 3grand including monitors.

3) Where do you live?

4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. The word "Everything" is not a valid answer. Please list out all the parts you'll need.

I am building from scratch, so I need case, cpu, ram, video card, mb, fans, pwr supply, the whole sh-bang. Id also like to have a SSD not a huge one but like a 120gb for OS at very least.

5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.

7) What size monitor do you have and/or plan to have?

Id like 2 monitors at least 25" but no bigger then 30" that I can hang on the wall.

9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? USB 3.0? SATA 6Gb/s? etc.

Well Id like a case with extra room for hard drives so I can store my movies, and all of our family's pictures, music etc on it over the network. I have a HTPC setup that already has a 2TB hard drive full of Blu-ray movies so the mb should support RAID

What I would recommend really depends on your exact budget. I mean, if you had a $1500 to $3000 budget, you're better off waiting till January 5th as that's when Intel is releasing their new Sandy Bridge CPUs. If your budget was $800 to $1000, then I would recommend just building now as that kind of budget would probably not allow for a Sandy Bridge CPU.
 
Do you want the monitors to have fast refresh rates (which are great for gaming) or excellent color reproduction (for the Adobe CS5 Master Suite)? It seems like a silly question, but most of the monitors recommended today are better at one task than the other.

Do you have a particular monitor or monitors in mind?
 
I was looking at the ASUS 25.5". As for PS I'm not a photographer so the colors do not have to be exact. I mainly work with Dreamweaver so i need to edit photos using PS. Someone mentioned Sandy Bridge CPU as the new CPU I was hoping the i7 was going to come down in price and I would go with that is that not a good idea?

Ehh. Intel has a track record for being a bit schizo with CPU prices/releases:
1) Intel releasing an incrementally faster CPU at the same price point of their older CPUs which makes buying the older CPU not a good purchase at all. (i.e i7 950 replacing the Core i7 930 which replaced the i7 920, Intel E8400 which replaced the E6750 which replaced the E6700 which replaced the E6420 which replaced the E6400, etc)

2) Intel dropping the prices of a CPU (i.e Q6600 price being slashed from $861 then to $500 then to $300 then to $200, Intel Core i7 950 being slashed from $562 to $300, Q9550 being slashed from $530 to $280)

3) Intel keeping the prices of their old CPUs at the same price level as brand new CPUs or even higher than what they're suppose to be (i.e Q9550, E8400, and E8500 prices have essentially remained the same since the release of the Core i7 CPUs a few years ago.)

So yeah, Core i7 CPU prices may not drop in price. Especially since Intel is gonna do everything they can to make people buy their new Sandy Bridge CPUs instead. Think about it. Why pay for an older CPU when a newer CPU is roughly the same price?

In less than two months, Sandybridge will arrive. It should be worth the wait.
 
Sandy Bridge is supposed to come out very soon. I would like to get my build tweaked and set so that as soon as the processor hits the market I can purchase it and not have to worry about items being sold out.

So fair I already purchased 2 27" Samsung monitors so I got about 2,000.00 left to spend on the machine im not worried if it goes over a few dollars but would deff still like to keep money pocket if i can.
 
We don't know the final prices of Intel Sandy Bridge processors and Socket 1155 motherboards, and we probably won't know until Sandy Bridge officially debuts on January 5.
 
I don't know, and I don't want to get your hopes up for no reason.

Just wait for Sandy Bridge to arrive like the rest of us.
