I'm getting these speakers...

From what I hear, the CS Newtons have always been a well received speaker. They should serve you well. ;)

Others to look at in that price range:

AV123.com has the 499$ CSE elt for only 299$ just for this christmas. Perhaps you want to check those out.

Perhaps looking at that site might intrigue you to buy even more expensive speakers.... hehehe. :)

However, I just found a used pair of Polk LSi7 (retails at Tweeter for 699$ plus tax) for only $300 WITH shipping at the polkaudio forum I go to.

It wont stay for sale for long, someone WILL snatch that up REAL quick.

I have a pair of LSi7 and LSi9 (with SVS sub), both are pretty much, in my opinion, as good as it gets for bookshelfs within the $1000 or so price range. Only competitors are the Sonus Fabers (Concertinos, Concertos), Paradigm Ref40s, Onix Reference 1.

Here's a pair of Ref1's on Audiogon, if you end up wanting to throw more money away =]

I love mine, even though I have to send one back due to a dead midrange =[

Figures that something is going to fail all the sudden right when I'm finally getting a center channel [2 actually] to fill out my HT system. :(

I've gave those a good listen before, They sound pretty good, but I thought the M60 sounded a bit better for some reason.

Thats ok BoVBz, I'm sure av123 and MLS will deal with that broken driver very promptly. :)

the middle letter is actually an M =]

I've emailed av123, and they are going to send me a new driver out. I tested out the driver and speaker with a multimeter and both read infinite resistance, so there's a short in the midrange somewhere. The other ref1 had an impedence of 5.7 or so, if you are curious =]

Web companies like AV123 and SVS seem to do a phenominal job of customer service. I've been fully satisfied with my purchases, and I doubt that I'll be going to B&M stores other than to kill time :D

Well, I ordered them...

Couldn't pass up 50% off! :D

Now I need a reciever...

I might go to a few pawn shops and see what they have there... I'll be looking for 5.1, with at least 70w per channel.

What brands should I kinda lean towards? Harmon/kardon? what else?

Thans for all the help so far!
