Im' getting folding requests for WUs that have 50,000 parts. Is this normal, do I get more points for these big ones?

Depending on what client you're using, and what processing core the WU requires, the number of "steps", "frames", or whatever can change drastically. And the size of those steps/frames/whatever can also vary drastically. In other words, the number of steps or frames is not a good indication of the processing time for the WU. It's better to look at the point value assigned to the WU on the project summary page

Would a 600mhz p3 be good enough for folding or is it too slow?
that should be the lowest you should go. I had one running for a little while, and it would post once a week. Not sure about the current lineup of WUs on it tho. I know a few people here have a 1ghz limit. But if you want to add more, do it ;)
