Ok, so i have comcast cable internet with a router and cable modem both from linksys. In the past month, i have had to reformat twice because for some reason, my internet stops letting me access websites, yet i can ping websites just fine with good ping. What is the problem, and what is a fix other than formatting every time it happens? (disabling and reenabling my connection fixes it temporarily, but within 5 minutes the process needs to be done again.)

Also, my internet is deathly slow when this problem starts happening. Its apparently not comcast's fault... Power cycle has been done many times and so has trying alternative network cards and cables. I have even bought a new set of cable/router modems, hence why i have both of them linksys now. Whats the probelm!??!

And you're using the onboard NIC?

Absolutely could be a bad NIC.

Got a PCI card you can throw in there to try?

it could also be a winsock error. give WinSock XP a try and let us know what happens.

if you can get your hands on a PCI NIC in the meantime, thatd be great. i had a PC that had a busted onboard NIC and winsock errors. its been running fine since.

i have comcast too, and i would say its there service, they installed cable in my house and it worked for 3 months and stopped so i called them and they said its not there problem, but they sent some one out and said its the wiring in my house and that it wont work, i told him it had been working for 3 months and he called the guy that installed, the guy that installed it said it work fine when he put it in, and then he told us he has no clue what happened because he didnt think it should work at all, wireing just does not change in a house, its probably comcasts crappy signal, they suck in my opinion but its the fastest i can get where i live

I have been having same probes with my daughts rig for the pst couple weeks. Sometimtes itis on,sometimes not.

I had a similiar problem with my Cox@Home. Finally had them come out and look at it. They had to "Bring the levels up" from the CO, but apparently the splitter I was using with the TV was not good enough and creating too much noise in the line. They replaced the splitter and I haven't had an outage since.

Comcast DNS servers have been down a lot lately. Your problem sounds like the comcast DNS servers are down.. try to force 4.2.2.2 and 4.2.2.3. I believe their either Verizon or Speakeasy DNS. I usually leave it on these as comcast always gives me trouble with their servers. :/

I have also had trouble recently with Comcast, my problems only happen at early evening hours 6:00-9:00 PM. during this period I recieve updates(from Symantec or Microsoft) but I can't access any websites. It has got to be their server's problem, high volume I suspect, I've contacted them and of course they deny any outages or problems.

had the same problem with my ideq Biostar box. it is a bad onboard NIC. I suggest you do a RMA at once. It took me 2 weeks with headaches to finally come out of denial that it is actually an onboard NIC problem. (Just bought the iDEQ btw when this happened)

I had teh same problem, I changed the preferred dns sevrer to 4.2.2.3 and teh alternative dns server to 4.2.2.2 and the problem went away.

I think you can change it to 4.2.2.x with x being any number 1-6 though as thats what the guy who helped me said

Comcast customers bogarting Verizon's DNS servers? For shame. ;)

Well, i am inclined to think comcast? But I did try a different PCI network card, and it did the same thing (i tried it after a clean format btw). So, its not my end i hope :).
