as the title says.

I've just ordered a Dell E1705 w/ 2.0 Core Duo, 1GB RAM and a 7900GS and I'm hoping that it will be able to play games life HL2 and BF with some eye candy just fine.

what do you guys think?

a 7900GS will handle hl2 fine at high detail.....although you may have to lower a few things if your at a really high resolution...

iF YOU WERE A REAL MAN AND PAYED THE EXTRA MONEY AND PURCHASES AN XPS YOU WOULD BE ON TOP OF THINGS LIKE ME..........HAHAHA OZZIE YOU WILL MISS THOSE FANCY RED LIGHTS AND NICE COVER

^ thats funny. :D

too bad I'm too poor to afford one like yours. I have to go the cheap way out. :(

rofl i bet u dont even have a XPS...and ur prob no older than 14...so stfu

I just got this Tuesday:

E1705
2ghz C2D
2GB 667MHZ RAM
7900GS 256MB
100GB 7200RPM HDD
1920x1200 screen

It's awesome. I don't have HL2 so I can't tell you much about that, but in 3DMark06 I got 3537. It benches 50% faster than my P4 3.0+X850XT PE desktop.

Only thing annoying me is that there's no Cardbus slot, just this lame ExpressCard slot that they make hardly anything for. My Cardbus TV tuner is an instant paperweight yay!

i heard that u can upgrade from a 7900gs to a 7950gtx on the e1705...i would do it if i got a e1705....

he was only kidding when he said that. I know this because he's a good friend of mine and he does in fact have an XPS. again, I know this because he brought it over to my house and showed it to me.

why do you think I'm getting one now? :p

You will be able to run HL2 At max details in 1900-1200 and 2AA/4AF. Thats what my M170 and 7800GTX runs it at.

The source engine while awesome looking. Is over a year old. the 7900 GS will be able to handle it fine at high settings. Newer games like Call of Duty 2 might require you to reduce the resolution to 1440 by 900 to play with some eye candy on. Congrats on your purchase I'm sure you'll be very satisfied with it.

I was able to get an 1705 with a 1.83 Core Duo and 2 gigs of 667 DDR2 RAM albeit with only a 7800 go from dell outlet for about $1100 with a 2 year warranty and it plays CoD 2 just fine at 1280 by 800 on medium settings. 30+ fps most of the time. The 7900 GS is noticably faster than the 7800 go so you should be able to bump up the resolution to 1440 by 900 if you want to on that game. I'm looking into upgrading the GPU to the 7900 GS sometime next year.

Have fun gaming with your new lappy.
