Anyways I have a Abit AG8 motherboard with onboard audio (7.1). So I hook my 5.1 system up and i open the soundmanager that comes with it and set it to 6 channels and do an autotest and all speakers are recognized, great! Now I go to windows and open control manager and go into sound options and set windows to a 5.1 system, GREAT! Now I go into a game and set it to 5.1 and it plays out of the front two speakers (no sub, or rear). Even weirder is that when I play guild wars or gta san andreas all 5 channels work (front, rear and center) but the sub doesn't work, same with counterstrike source..... how can I fix this? Guild wars isn't a 5.1 game but even though I havea 5.1 system shouldn't the sound in 2 channels be emulated over my speakers like my rear left and front left are the same and my right rear and front are the same and my sub work? I've been trying to fix this problem for the last 8 months and it's driving me insane now that I have gta san andreas, I CAN"T TAKE IT ANYMORE.

To make things even more confusing when I play mp3's in iTunes all speakers work and the sub works perfectly and if I open a movie or mp3's in media player they work fine! Open a mp3 in winamp, nothing..... can anyone help?

On a side note if I can't fix this if I pick up a audigy 2 ZS and pop it in my machine and hook my speakers up and I play a game that isn't encoded for 5.1 will it emulate 2 channel over my 5 speakers and sub like a 2.1 system?
 
I don't know about the first part, but yes, an audigy 2 can emulate a stereo signal to all speakers. There is a setting in the audigy eax panel called CMSS 3d that will allow you to do it.
