yes yes, im back....but i dont think many if any of you guys will remember me. i stopped folding because my computer was having serious stability issues and i was too lazy to get new ram so i deleted F@H and just never got around to installing it again. But i just bought a new comp...E8400, 4gb ram, 9600gt, etc...a very nice upgrade from my old system in my sig, so its time to get err going again.

question....how do i get 2 clients running....do i just name the 2 different clients #1 and #2? or is there anything else to it

just run the SMP client....1x SMP will give you much higher points per day than 2 standard clients, as well as run through some of the new chewy work units that Stanford has been pushing lately :D

The SMP is the way to go, especially with that chip.

 
Like the others have mentioned, running 1x SMP on a dual core is the best way to go. Running more than that wouldn't be effective. Good to have you back in production!


 
Welcome back. Agree with the others that SMP is the way to go with that box. That is, unless you aren't running it very long each day, then you won't make the deadlines.

Welcome back Krayzie135 and I have to agree with my teampersons that SMP'ing is definitely the way to go. (1x client C2D and 2x clients C2D quad) with affinity changer :D

If you're running WInXP, you can assign a password to your account, then go to run and type in the "control userpasswords2" command. This will allow you to set up WinXP to log in automatically using your account / password combination, so you don't have to type it in each time.

for some reason the client doesnt like my password?

like it asks for my user name, then team, then password and it says the passkey is invalid so i just clicked enter to skip it...and it downloaded this WU

That is a standard client WU, not SMP. Which client did you install??
 
6.10 beta3 from the link you sent me... i dont think i set it up right:S it wouldnt take my password...kept saying it was invalid

The client you installed is not the SMP version. It's a new beta version of the console client which I wouldn't recommend.

Try this client: http://www.stanford.edu/~kasson/folding/Folding@Home Windows SMP Client.EXE

Install the client in the above link, but make sure you already have a Windows password configured. When you run the executable, an install.bat file will appear in the folder you selected. Click on that file and the program will request your Windows username and password before it proceeds. Let us know if you have any problems. Someone can get you started.
