I really need help here. Everything was working just fine until 2 days ago when I started having error with explorer.exe. So after a few test I decided that the only way that I'm gonna fix that is by re-installing XP. I insert the cd, start my computer, loading the driver for installation....... it freeze. re-start again, start the installation vlam!, BSOD (page_fault_in_nonpaged_area). Try with an other Hard drive.....still nothing....try with w2k.... can't write/read ****.inf. so I'm starting to thinking that it's not my hard drive.... it might be my memory ( 2*256 in dual channel) so try with only one 256mo.... nothing, try the other one... still freezing or having BSOD.

So there is no more beer in the frig...and I'm out of solution.... I will try with an other power supply as soon as I find one(hope it's only that) this one is really cheap( like 50$ can)

after that it's either the cpu or the motherboard.

so, any idea/help would be great.

here's my setup:

celeron 2ghz
Asus p4p800
512 mo Kingston (2*256 dual channel)
40gig Western digital
ATI Radeon 9200

your english is actually better than some of those that speak it natively :p

you got another tower to test stuff with? I would just do that...try each part invidually to see if any one part is defective.
 
paging area BSOD's sounds like the RAM, maybe hte hard disk, and possibly the IDE controller. first thing is first, run memtest86. do a google search for it, download it. run the excutable, itll make a floppy, boot off the floppy, the test will run itself. if it finds errors, you found your problem

a cheap PSU will not solve any problems. cheap PSU= system kill. only buy good quality power supplies, or the voltage fluctionatins will kill your componets over time.

so do this.. run memtest, if that passes, try another hard disk, and try both ide channels. also, try a different ide cable, ive had those go bad on me before.

and yeah, your english is rather good, i didnt even notice until you said that

thats what i htought, id put my money on the RAM.

also, accoriding to this, it could be the L2 cache on your processor. i highly doubt this, but its something to consider.

Also test one stick of ram at a time with the memtest to find which is the culprit, or both. But do one at a time. You're going to be fine! Just work the problem and stay calm ;)

ok I'm calming down.......

I tried one memory stick at a time but would not have thought of trying memtest with one stick at a time thx for the idea it's good to know...
 
Also, if Memtest doesn't tell you anything....you can always look the STOP codes up from the blue screen on Microsoft.com or Google. I have always found this to be very informative.
 
Ok I tested both memory one at a time, no error their, but one think is bothering me
in memtest I see:
L1 cache = 8k
L2 Cache = unknown

cold it be that my L2 cache on my CPU (celeron 2Ghz) is death....

and this is the error I get when I try installing XP, I'm looking in google right now what it could mean.

I've never actually heard of L2 cache going bad, thats a very strange error. You know anyone with a p4 that you could test in your system?

11pm, ouch...but at a bar till 3am, thats better than here =/
 
well, a 2ghz celly would probably be cheaper than ram.. so its not all bad! lol
 
yeah I'll try to use part from a friend to test mine ...but you know how it's sometime ...you fix their computer but when it's time to fix your's....
 
So, I finally found a friend who would let me use some parts of his computer. I switch both CPU'S, mine started but his computer didn't...so, I guess my CPU is death.....

Whoohoo!!! I Killed my first CPU in 7 years.... But now I have to find some extra money to buy a new one.... like if I needed that right now.

I get BSODs from time to time, usually when I wake up and realize my computer had rebooted itself. When I report the system recovery to Miscrosoft, the website never detects what driver messed up. Hopefully, though I'd prefer not having anymore BSODs, the next time I get one I'll be at my computer to see the details.
 
oh right... forgot about that little detail...

well it cant be that expensive outside U.S. can it?
 
102$ canadian on ncix, might also want to try tiger direct. given the current exchange rate its a little more then newegg but it still won't break your wallet.
 
I can't buy on newegg but I know a place.... 96$ can + shipping (10$) for a celeron 2.4 FSB 533....

also I went to a local dealer this afternoon ....122$ for the same celeron, he also offered me 30$ for the dead one .....so that would be like 90$ for a new CPU which is not bad
 
Heh, I know how you feel, my P4 2.8ghz started rebooting and would not stop and would not post. Just reboot in infinitely, then when I went to check it, the Heatsink broke. I know your feelings... :)
 
ok got my new Celeron ..... surprise still not working Grrrrrrr! I'm really not happy with that and after a lot of very very ugly french word.... I try with only one memory stick.... it worked. so I tested the other one to see if it's really not working... it worked too.... I'm confuse now..... re-try with 2 stick in dual memory .... not working. So I guess I found what is the problem but how do I fix it.
I'm really confused and I didn't have any beer yet...
I hope it's not my board
 
sounds like its your board. if both RAM sticks work one at a time but not at the same time then there is something screwy with your board.
