Hello,

I'm new to the forum. I've been lurking around for the past couple of months and now I finally decided to register. I'm looking for a gaming pc in the price range of $2k or lower. I've narrowed it down to two companies: Falcon-NW and MAINGEAR. I've been reading only positive reviews from both companies for quite some time now.

Here's the configs for each machine:

Falcon-NW Talon
Asus A8N-SLI Motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 3500+ w/ Zalman
1GB PC3200
250GB Westen Digital HD
nVidia 7800 GTX
Plextor PX-740A Optical Drive
Logitech Keyboard
Logitech Mouse
Total $2255.97

MAINGEAR Prelude 64
Asus A8N-SLI Premium Motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ w/ Zalman
1GB Mushkin PC3200
250GB Western Digital HD
nVidia 7800GTX
Plextor PX-740A Optical Drive
Logitech Keyboard
Logitech Mouse
Total $2237.55

The MAINGEAR is cheaper in price and offers a dual core cpu. The Falcon has a great repuatation backing it up, but that's about it. From what i've seen both companies offer very high build quality machines. Every time I call Falcon or MAINGEAR they pick up their phones right away. I'm very impressed with their sales teams.

I would appreciate your 2 cents.

Thanks

That's a tough one, I have a lot of respect for both companies. All I can tell you is either way you won't be making a bad choice.

Personally, if someone offered me a 3800+ for about the same price as a 3500+, I'd go dual core.

QFT. I was going to say just about the same thing. I'd definately go dual-core over single-core for the same price. It's a safer bet for "future-proofing" yourself. Otherwise the systems look very solid. Good luck with whatever you decide on.

Thanks for the reply. Your right, i've been leaning towards Maingear, but I hear that Falcon has great tech support. One of my main concerns is tech support, due to the fact that i'm not going to be the only one in my family using the pc.

Falcon has fantastic tech support, but I'll let this slip since the article is finished: Maingear does too.

The one we'll be publishing shortly on the Maingear Prelude. ;)

Known issues with this configuration: None

System Price: $ 2,498.56

Dont look at the Talon for only about 300 more bucks you get a better computer and 3 years warrantee with this Mach V...

Chris,
That's great. I hadn't noticed that your an admin and that you work for Hardocp.
Thanks for helping me make my decision. We'll be going with the Prelude64. I'll post my purchasing experience as time goes by.

Thanks

Hello Romulan,

The Maingear F131 with that same configuration costs $2173.56. Is there a reason why Falcon's pc's with the same components are more expensive? I'm a Hard believer in the famous phrase: "You get what you pay for!". I'm just trying to make the most educated decision.

Thanks

Mach V's come with a 3 year warranty and 1 year of Falcon Overnight tech support. Maingear's overnight support is 30 days only.

You do get what you pay for, in this case, you're getting more coverage with Falcon.

Your call, both good deals. Personally, I like the Mach V chassis a little more than the Prelude's.

Well I would be interested to see the review Chris mentioned although I wish it was of the F131 instead... Ya that Falcon warrantee that is offered with the mach v cannot be beat. but both systems are great. Its a personal choice I guess, although right now I have not heard much negative information at all about the Falcon Mach V.

From what I've seen the F131 is a flashier version of the Prelude with slightly better cooling. However, we've never seen one so I couldn't tell you.

Good point! It wouldn't apply to me cause it would be between the Talon and the Prelude. Not the F131 and Mach V.

I would like to thank everyone here for the help.
