Illustrator shape from paths

Say I have the following paths:

What tool/procedure will allow me to take the highlighted path sections:

and create a custom shape that I can then resize and fill?:

I can't seem to find anything to do the trick nor do I know what it would be called

Select your objects -> Window -> Pathfinder -> Intersect

GeekHeart is correct. And it will work with multiple objects - just play around with that tool-panel 'till you get the results you want. It can be a pain, but it will work eventually. You may need to make duplicate objects and work through a few different combinations of shapes, depending on the complexity of the desired outcome.
