Illuminating a Logo Cap With LED?

I'm having the following small cap with an engraved logo 3d printed for me ...

The white would represent solid material and the dark would be empty, if that makes sense. I have not considered adding a clear / translucent film but would do so if that is recommended.

I want to illuminate the cut out logo with blue LED. I want to avoid being able to see the LED and have the light distributed as evenly as possible. I was thinking of placing the LED diode (or diodes?) behind the upper part of the skull so it is hidden. I have up to 12V to power the LEDs and can step down to 5V (but would prefer 12V if possible to avoid using a BEC).

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

(Full disclosure: although I am also an avid computer builder and long time member of the [H], this is actually for a DJI Phantom quadcopter. My sense has just been that this type of stuff is better suited for the accomplished case modders like the ones here.)
 
What I would suggest if that you use clear or white acrylic, snaded down to make it a more mat finish and then put the LED behind that. That way the chances of seeing the LED would be minimal. Also a 5 V should be fine if its not too large a piece. Film may not give you the look you are looking for and may be a bit flimsy. Also film may burn out or discolor over a period of time.
 
mav, thank you for the feedback. The white logo cap will actually have a white background. I did not think about degradation of the film. Thanks!
 
Print the logo. Mix up some casting resin. Using blu tack, make a ring the size of the outer printer portion so you can affix it "waterproofly" to a glossy plastic surface. Pour resin in. Skip the blu tack if the empty part of the logo has a printed backing.

Sand the back of the resin after a long curing to haze it. Drill a 3mm hole on each side around 4mm deep. Mount a 12v 3mm led into the hole and epoxy it in.

It'll make the clear portion of the logo illuminate. Likely look better than lighting the whole thing.
