Which Galant base and what tops are you using? I have a modular Galant pieced together from their largest corner (63"x31.5") and a rectangular top (47.5"x23.5") and the old Galant tops are peeling with no replacement since they were discontinued. 2x of the Gerton tops look like it might work with some slight modifications otherwise my choice would be $1K+ custom wood tops. I don't mind losing the rounded corner.I've been using galant frame/legs and throwing different tabletops on them for 15+ years, kinda tempted to have a bekant for backup.

I will always regret leaving my jerkerHave 3 ikea desks right now. A fredrik, a gallant, and one other which I think is also a gallant with rounded edges. They're all premium feeling. Miss my jerker, but the gallant is the same size basically just different legs.
No idea why they stopped making them!I will always regret leaving my jerker![]()
Oh yeah I actually have 3 T legs, not the A legs. The pic was mainly for the desk top. The Gerton looked good since it was the cheapest option that was actually wood, as opposed to the more expensive Idasen which would actually fit the Galant frame near perfectly but is made of particleboard. I do find it interesting how the Idasen and the smaller one has a 70KG load rating over the 50KG of the Gerton, with everything at the same thickness.I abandoned a set of those A-leg types in an apartment, but now I have the T-leg small and large rectangular frames. The Gerton do look like they'd work, but I've been slapping on anything that can be drilled into with good results. My small galant has the original top and I've refinished it in the past and recently just vinyl wrapped it since I was too lazy to refinish again.
No idea why they stopped making them!
I think I have a bekant. It's fine and durable but it's clear it can't hold as much weight as my gallant. I bet I could put 800lbs on my gallant without issue, and would stand on it without any concern. For some silly reason, Ikea seems to be highly averse to raising prices, even if only to track with inflation. Instead, they'll come out with a new, cheaper to produce line at the same price point(s).
Example: Galant being replaced by Bekant.
Yeah, that's the problem with ikea--you have to have one close enough otherwise there's transport costs.I was going to buy that cheap Linnmon 78" version for $52.99.. but...

So if you don't have an ikea nearby they're pretty much useless I guess. That's a shame. $253 to get a $53 table here.
(I'm currently located in coastal NC.. nearest ikea is in Charlotte)

Thanks. I have a 65x32" Galant from many years ago. I want to downsize. I have decided to go single monitor and the desk just takes up too much room. I have done some measurements and decided that 44x22 would be the perfect size. I may just cut down one of their table tops and attach some of their legs.
Does anyone know how long this sale is for? I'd like to buy my mother a new desk and I am visiting on the weekend.
They won't straight ship it to you? I'm about an hour away from a store and they shipped me a Linnmon table a few years ago via UPS. It was less than $100 or so total for table and shipping.
yup that's my problem too, nearest ikea is either seattle or portland for me, so the 1 time i year i'm on that half the state i usually go there and buy everything and drive it back. their shipping price is ridiculous. the last time i went i had something like 800 pounds of ikea crap in the back of my expedition..![]()

Those things are 1980s weak sauce--we bought those brand new at Sams club. This is the desk for the dance party on top:You can buy one of those old 1960 battletank office desks off craigslist in any major city all day long for $20-$40.
Hard to beat if you value functionality and space over cosmetics.
You know the type I'm talking about -- everyone has seen them. They must weigh 200lbs, and forget letting one person stand on it without concern - - I'd throw a dance party on mine and everyone that could fit could stand on it without any concern.

A lot of people seem to be refurbing these and painting them or whatnot. I've yet to see one that has been polished to a mirror finish, but that would make it modern bling, haha. While I'm all for functionality, I also don't want my home office to resemble the dank, dark basement office staffed by baby boomers that I voted in last year.![]()
These are some of the cheapest and best desks you can buy. I had to set up a second desk and got an entire 3' x 5' desk for under $50. In fact, my exact setup is on sale right now for only $35:

And while there may not be any 10k desks, there are some under $20:

$30 ones too:

And the Ikea family program is awesome--free coffe at their cafeteria and other various specials. Also, figure out what day they allow you do take off the amount spent at the cafeteria off your total bill. You usually have to spend a higher dollar amount like $150+/$250+/something like that, but you can then go and rack up a $40 bill in the cafe and you essentially eat for free since they'll take that $40 off your bill total bill. We did that when we had to buy a lot of our initial home stuff after we got married and saved a tremendous amount between Ikea family sale prices and that eating deal.![]()
I love their modular desk components. This is an all-Ikea adjustable height/angle desk which was stained and poly'd:

Desktop
Legs x2
~$169.99 (Ikea Family price, free to sign up) before stain/poly. I ended up adding wooden pegs in the desktop and then drilled matching holes in the legs instead of permanently attaching the legs. Makes moving it way easier. The desktop also comes with metal bars running from front to back which helps prevent sagging (seems to work well after over a year of use).
Dude which stain/poly did you use? Have 2 Gertons myself and have been meaning to do this to protect the finish.
Yours turned out better than mine. I just put a couple coats of clear satin finish on it. Wish I'd stained them, but they are real wood so I guess if I was super duper bored I could sand them and start over. I bought 2 and use them in a L shape.
Dude, I never thought about making an L desk with these...I might just have to do that!
