Okay, I just recently installed IIS on Windows 2000 Professional and so far, I can't get anything to work right.

Whenever I try to access my website, all I get is the "server cannot be found" (or whatever it was) error in Internet Explorer.

I've tried several ways to access my site:

http://localhost FAILED
http://127.0.0.1 FAILED
http://<IP_ADDRESS> FAILED
http://site.gotdns.com FAILED

I've even tried accessing a file in the wwwroot directory with all of those URL's, and once again, Internet Explorer just hangs for a few minutes and comes up with the same error..

Now, if I ping all of the URL's, they are successful (except for the gotdns one).

I normally ran Apache and Linux on my main box, and I just recently installed Windows 2000, so I'm quite lost.

are the iisadmin and www services starting properly?

are you blocking incoming port 80 traffic with a firewall?

can you telnet to the ip address such as telnet ipaddr 80 and get a response?

is the IIS service running using the "system account" or did you make a special set of credentials for it?

IIS Admin Service - Check

If you are referring to the World Wide Web Publishing Service, then - Check

Access to Port 80 - Check

For the Telnet to Port 80, what am I looking for? I only see a blank screen in the command prompt when I issue that command.

Also, I don't quite know what you are referring to when you say the System Account.

I haven't messed with any of the settings that came with the installation of IIS.
