Picked up a IGMATEK HDT-S1283 from microcenter for a friends computer and this thing is a POS. Can anyone recommend me a heat sink around the $40 range that isnt a 'push pull pin' type that warps the motherboard? I prefer to have a back plate with mounting screws Will be looking to pick one up from microcenter later today.

Have to agree with the poster above. The Xigmatek is probably the best cooler in your price range. The only coolers that show a noticeable increase in performance are all in the $60 - $70 range.

Wait, that bracket is for the four-pipe models. The S1283 uses three pipes. You need the ACK-I7751, which Newegg apparently doesn't sell anymore.

btw you need a Crossbow I7751 not the 53 version =) (as the poster said above)

OP, you realize it's Xig not Ig, and how would a pin system warp the motherboard any more than a screw system?

Someone is failing pretty hard... I have installed Xig S1283's on many mobo's now with the push-pins and they have all went on easily. If you understand how the push pin system works (don't just shove them down) they go in quite easily and don't bend anything.

Maybe he got so mad at it that he broke the "X" key while pounding on his keyboard? ;)

The warping is part of the design of the push-pin system and is perfectly normal (and not harmful to the board). Go educate yourself before going nuts and blaming the heatsink for being a "POS".

The push-pin system uses the motherboard to provide the mounting pressure, whereas a backplate system would put the pressure on the metal plate instead of the board.

Glad we could find a retention bracket to calm his nerves. One of several coolers to take the cooling market by storm with its performance/price ratio. Hell of a cooler and still using it to this day.

they sell the retention bracket at microcenter so you can just go pick it up tommorow. no need to wait for it to be shipped out to you.

my vendetta 2 (pretty much the same as the xiggy) is a pretty badass cooler. keeps my overclocked i7 in check.
