If I designed a SFF

This design hit me while bored at work…

I love the shuttle cases but I’ve never owned one just because I can’t fit all of my expansion cards in it. If there was something like my design, I would be able to cram more than enough stuff into it.

I think the CPU card idea would work well for AMD because the CPU connects to the northbridge using hypertransport and the only other thing would be some power voltages other 12v. The other thought is that when AMD switches to the m2 socket you could just switch out the CPU card instead of buying another $400 shuttle. I'm a fan modular fully customized things so the whole back of the case is filled with standard expansion slots so you can use just the ports you need on your box to give you that nice clean look. Anther thing is if you were to window the case you would be able to see all of the components nicely (no seeing the backside of anything here)
There are also a few changes that could be made, using heatpipes to expand CPU cooling to the other side, space for water cooling, and an intake fan. Hopefully I'll have some more sketches to put up in the next day or two (I'll have to pry myself away from bf2)

Any more ideas?

You have some very interesting ideas, although I'm sure once you put in all the real measurements it would not quite fit like you would hope it would. From the pictures I take it that there would be a CD/DVD optical drive, a 120mm fan, and a standard atx power supply all on the same level.. how deep did you expect this case to be? Expansion cards like video cards (especially nVidia cards) are not short either.. you would have to really increase the case's depth to fit in the hdd's and expansion cards. It might be breaking away from SFF territory once you really get some measurements.. IMO external power supplies may be the way to go with the shuttle SFF's. They'll solve alot of heat and space issues. Other than that, it looks like a nice intuitive concept.

looking at pictures of the shuttle p case it lookes like the hard drives are mounted above the cdrom drive i was thinking about sacrificing space to squeeze a thin 120 or 92 in there also getting rid of the lower 3.5 mount means you could put full height card all the way across.
then by making the case a hint wider you can mount one hard drive on the left side of the drive cage, leaving you with 2 hdd brackets to use, and by making the wider and longer by a a few hairs would make everything fit and hopefully keep it slightly narrower and shorter than aspire q-pack

Hehe, next thing you know Shuttle will release something JUST like this and not give you any credit. Now THAT would be priceless.

i wouldn't really care becuase I could go out and at least buy one. though a little $$$$$ would be nice.
