hey guys i was woundering if a hdd shows up and i try to install xp
and it acts like its working and finishes copying files and reboots
but then it comes up with an error loading os message

is there anything that can been done or is the drive considered bad

thanks in advance guys

Well it might not be the HD, it could be the CD your using, maybe a drive, not sure. Is the HD new? If not, anything on it? Make any funky noises? Did you try a diagnostic program to see how it tests?

well im sure its not the disc or my drive have used them both with other hdds and they always installed fine
and nothing on it i just formatted it b4 installing the os
havent run any programs, dont know of any
btw ty for quick response

kmow what u mean, but i guess i just dont wanna sleep
but any idea here cause as of now i need for an os
or could u recommend a diagnostic program

i had a similar problem before. How many HDDs in your PC? Overclocked?

When I switched my HDD to the other Port (this was a PATA drive on a A8N-E) my problem was fixed.

pretty sure its not the motherboard as it works fine with all other drives ive had, i am gonna try and install xp on another drive to be certain though, even though i did this maybe a month or so ago

at the time of installation this was the only drive i had in there bc i was pretty much wanting to test the drive out as ive seen drives that show up in windows and "wrok" in there but wouldnt install an os

my real question is does this drive sound at risk, i suppose i might be able to forgive not being able to get the os running on it, but only if you guys think its not a bad drive
and i forgot to answer this but the drive was bought used on the forums but this is what was said about the drives(i got a total of 3 other 2 seem to be fine)

"as they are in new condition and are caviars"

and to me that makes the seem rather new like maybe a few months old, which is not the case and they also dont look the part of a new condition drive but these are issues ill have to take up with him

so to reiterate my concern should a new condition drive which i just recieved tuesday act like this

well would you consider a drive u just recieved from someone that acts like this as a working drive
i will also look into running that software off site
