Just as the subject says. I have remote desktop setup on a WinXP machine, it has worked for almost a year, tried just the other day on two seperate machines to login, when I go to the webpage it asks me to install an ActiveX control I click to install it and it just keeps coming back, it won't ever install it. Both machines have IE7 on them.... went to a few others that are running IE6, and it works like a charm. Any ideas??

yes....

that is the article I used to initially set it up.... like I said, it worked great under IE6, and even the computers that had IE6 and upgraded to IE7, if they had already connected via IE6 FIRST, before upgrading. Computers that just had IE7 installed on them, without logging in prior via IE6, will NOT install the activeX control.

My company has the same issue with WebEx software that allows us to connect to client computers remotely. It just doesnt work with IE7 on Vista or XP.

I think its just new security policies doing it. Give it some time.

Have you tried upgrading the remote desktop client software to the new v6?

you need to add the site your navigating too to trusted sites before the ActiveX will install properly.

the desktop is already updated to v.6, as are the machines that cannot access... so that doesn't work.

Also, I cannot add that site as a trusted site, as it is not an https, only http.

Any other ideas??

Trusted sites can be added regardless if they are http or https.

Do tell.... :D obviously I am not smart enough to figure this one out... everytime I try and add one, it tells me otherwise.

Just drop the security level for Internet sites in IE 7. Does the same thing for many sites that need to shove in an Active X control...including SBS2K3 RWW. Dropping to lower setting from default cures it.

This is assuming you're a smart user and don't visit risky sites with IE7.

I'm connecting to my RDW setup just fine via IE7, and I haven't changed any of the security settings since install. After it installed the activeX it's never come up with anything else. I don't really have a suggestion, just confirming that it does work. GL.
