IE and Windows Media Player problem...

Well my internet explorer does not open. It was an overnight thing. When I try to open it, it says that Explorer has caused an error in SHELL.DLL and Explorer will now close. Sometimes instead od SHELL.DLL, it would say <unknown>

It there is fix or do you know what is wrong?

Also my Windows Media Player won't open...All of the WMP icons turned to the "open with" icon.

It was all an overnight thing. It was fine one time. I shut it down. And now it is acting up.

HELP ME!
 
You'd have much better luck with a solution to software by posting in the software forum.

while this is true, i'll at least try to help you.

in this order:
1.] go to www.microsoft.com
A)download the latest version of Internet Explorer (must be 6 or something by now)
B)download the latest version of Windows Media Player

2.] Installing
A)Install Internet Explorer over your existing one
B)Install WMP over your existing version

3.] go to www.windowsupdate.com
A)Get all the Critical updates
B)Look for any updates in the "updates" section pertinent to IE or WMP
C)Get all the drivers updates.
