So I have an i5-6600k at 4.7, with the midrange ga-z170xp-sli board. Unfrontunately the board has quite a bit of vdroop, it goes from 1.475 idle to 1.415 under load. So to get a decent OC the chip needs to idle at 1.475 to hit 1.41 at load. Will a high idle vcore do damage the way a high vcore under load will? The average time I keep a cpu is about 4 years. Thanks! Its liquid cooled and the temps are good. P.S. ignore the signature for now, its not updated.
 
High Vcore is high Vcore. I'd say a higher idle is worse simply because a typical computer spends a hell of a lot more time idle than at full load.
 
can't you just go with more better and modern vcore setting as Adaptive or Offset?. using manual voltage + Vdroop or LLC it's the worse possible method of apply vcore, in the past manual voltage was the only way of apply higher voltage when overclocking, but in the past with planar achitectures CPUs used to be more tolerant to static/fixed vcore 24/7, so today a modern tri-gate/fin-fet CPU can suffer faster degradation specially at above 1.4V..
