hi
a couple months ago sumone posted a program that dropps ur idle temps and i need that program again,so can someone pleaze tell me where i can find it again

thanx

google for CPU cooler - im pretty sure that is the name of a prog like what your asking

do remember, that this is only helpful for older comps, since newer ones have this sorta thing built in, that is why there is a big diff between idle and load temps

at least, that is what i remember reading

I'm guessing your talking about HLT programs. Basically, it shuts off the idle parts of your CPU so it's not using so much electricity (and therefore generating less heat). Win9x does not include support for this, but WinNT does. You only need one of these programs (Rain, CPUidle, etc.) if you use Win9x.

sounds like a nice program to have,

I'm gonna have to check that out

I sure did...works on Nforce 2 boards...

This tweak can drop your idle CPU temps down as much as 8c, maybe more...depending on your system.

First thing you need to do is download WPCRSET & WPCREDIT.

http://rh03.hostreflex.com/~pacman10/Drisler/wpcredit.zip

- Extract to a directory.
- Run "INSTDD.EXE". Click Install. When done, you will be prompted for restart. Hit Yes! -
- Then go back to the folder with extracted files, and open "WPCREDIT.EXE"
- A ms-dos like window will pop-up. Move the blinking block (with arrow keys or your mouse pointer) until it says Offset 6F at the buttom. Now, click on the two digit number where it says "HEX", and change it to 1F (The Hex for Offset 6F would have previously been 9F, 8F or something else). Hit Set.

Your idle temps should now start falling.
You would have to do this hack/tweak everytime you rebooted your computer if it wasn't for WPCRSET.

- Go to directory and run "WPCRSET.EXE"
- Look at the top of the window: Enable select "Start" and make sure Device is on "enable"
- Then click Add. Enter 6F for the register, and 1F for the data
- Click Ok and you'll be prompted to restart.

Once, you rebooted, open WCREDIT again and see if the 6F register is still on 1F. If it is, then that's it..You're all done.

any unix version?

I have an nF2 AXP server that is idle like all day ( cant get folding fer some reason ), and that would help.

im assuming your using the computer in your sig...
This only brings your idle temps down, and not your full load temps
It should work for all nforce2s, and use at your own risk :D
probably why. ;)

Just turns off parts of the processor that you aren't using. Some boards have it enabled already, but Epox for one, doesn't for some reason.

Worked great on my Shuttle SN41G2!
Dropped the temperature 3 degrees when web surfing (from 51C to 48C)
Dropped the temperature 4 degrees when idle (from 50C to 46C)
Danke!

only saw ~2c difference...I think I have too much artic silver on there right now

I am using CPU Idle Pro 6.0b I think with WinXP SP1 and my idle temps before were idle 34C, load 44C. With CPU Idle installed my temps are 24-27C, 37-39C. I hear a lot of people say it doesn't do anything on WinXP because it already has HLT built in but it works great on my system. I also heard that it works better on AMD Nforce2 systems. Pentium users won't really see a difference. I would recommend it to anyone with a AMD system. I ran some benches before and after and they didn't drop at all with it installed. It doesn't affect games either for me, but that's just my experience.:)
