Identifying reference designs?

So I am looking for reference design 5870's to use for my watercooling setup.

I plan on using full coverage EK blocks with the backplates.

EK's cooling configurator site seems to only list model #'s non-reference designs.

So I am left guessing a little bit. Is it as easy as looking for cards with fans mounted near the rear and plugs on the side?

To my knowledge all non MSI, XFX or ASUS 5870s w/ black pcbs are reference but the best way to check is to google the manufacturers part no and look for reviews or forum comments on Afterburner compatibility. If you're lucky you can find the card on the manufacturers site, probably marked as EOL or discontinued. Also pretty likely for any black pcb 5xxx out of stock everywhere. For anything else try to post a pic of the pcb.

The ASUS is not ref, hence the v2 in its part no. I'm pretty sure the Visiontek, Diamond and HIS are.

Also if you look at Sapphire cards, 21161-____ are the ref ones.
