Identifying my own posts. . .

in long ass threads. just to know where i left off

that's why i have a wierd ass colorful sig. so i can scan through a long thread and see where to start reading from.

so im wondering, if others have this problem, or if there is a simple solution to it, than to look for your name or the edit button on a list of 50 posts.

maybe a button at top of thread that takes me to my last post.
or preferably, im wondering if a visual cue could be implimented, like a slightly staggered avatar/info section, or a more colorful edit button. or a button at the top of the thread page that takes me to my last post.

but what i would really love is just a slightly different color for my (one's) own posts, bright red or maybe deep blue for the header. or a lighter shade of grey for the avatar section.

i never use the new posts link, cause i miss too much that way and i dont always post in or read a thread ive posted in on every single visit.

so suggestions or solutions to my problem is why it sucks and shouldn't be implimented should be the basis of this thread.

Within a forum index page, to the left of the thread title there will be a little downward pointing red arrow
firstnew.gif
. If you have visited that thread before, clicking on that arrow will take you to the first unread post.

so everyone else goes through all the threads on the forum and decides what to post in orginally.

then they go to the arrow and view new posts from their last visit

and then they go to all posts made by user (which i have used)
and then cross refences this with action 1 so as to avoid going into topics several times

i usually just wonder about responses to comments i might have left in a forum i rarely check, and the reason i posted the comment doesnt match up with the thread title or the text displayed. (usually i am most interested in long comments i make that will likely be a little off topic) and those are sort of the most hidden in a long thread with a wide subject and only a blurb of my post, that doesnt remind me of my long ass post.

the red arrow will work if i make sure i post every time i visit a thread, cause then (dot+arrow=where i left off). ill have to work on that habit.

maybe having my pc sit on hardforum for like 13 hours straight might be messing up my options also.

You can do this with a filtering proxy, a program that changes web content before it gets to your browser. Proximodo is an open source re-do of a really cool (but no longer developed or maintained) proxy called Proxomitron. Anyways, if you copy this filter and import it into Proximodo it will highlight all of your posts in a thread.
Code:
[Hard Highlight]
ID=200
Priority=999
Type=text
Multiple=yes
Width=16384
URL=www.hardforum.com
Bounds=$NEST(<!-- open content container -->,*\"member.php\?u=73077\">Ocean*,<!-- / close content container -->)
Match=\0 <td class="thead" style="font-weight:normal" \2$SET(\1=<td class="thead" style="background-color:#666666;font-weight:normal;") |
_\0 <td class="alt2" \2$SET(\1=<td style="background-color:#666666" class="alt2" )
Replace=\0 \1 \2
If anyone else wants to use it, they'll need to change in the bounds match the u=73077\">Ocean part to match their own user number and name. Customize the colors by changing the #666666 to the color of your choice.

wow, that is awesome, ill have to look into it, because it is way over my head now. but that could be adapted towards so many things i want.

you are awesome.

will proximundo work fine with browsers other than IE? (i use opera)

It doesn't care what browser you use (as long as the browser is willing to use a proxy, which most are). This is what it would look look in Firefox.

Yeah, its a really cool program. I use it for all kinds of stupid stuff: another forum I visit uses icons that are too dark and too similar, I can never tell what threads I've posted in or what threads have new posts. So I have Proximodo alter the page so it uses different icons. I don't like Wired's choice of fonts/sizes, so I changed 'em. Google's search results come with sponsored links, I kill them. NASA's Cassini pages require too many clicks to get to the high resolution images, I substituted direct links. When I visit a forum that isn't worth registering with, I have no desire to see all the pointless sigs, so they get filtered out. :) :D

Pop-ups? Not for me. Advertising? Gone. But if a site deserve my support, I can have it automatically generate a banner-click-thru and still hide the ad. ;)

heh...yeah I use the same technique as you...I scan for my sig. Having not changed it in 3 years, I can spot it pretty quickly.

Simple:

(1) Click on your own username and click on View Profile
http://hardforum.com/member.php?userid=73077

(2) Click on Find All Posts by Ocean and you will see all of your individual posts
http://hardforum.com/search.php?searchid=645035

Pretty simple, eh? :cool:

That does tend to stress out the servers especially when a lot of people are using it. My vote goes to Proxomitron. Customised forum colours, swear word filter, !!!!!!/tubgirl etc warning, hidden link warning, avitar removal... the list goes on.

I mainly use this feature while checking up on some member's posting activities, so it suits my purpose quite well. I can usually remember my last ten to fifteen posts, so I have no real need for another system personally. so it's whatever floats your boat :)
