Ok guys, this one is for the [H]'ers who rock.

I recently bought a 3.06ht p4 with 512 cache. Little to my knowledge, there are 2 different models, the 3.0e and the 3.0c. How the hell do i tell which one I have? I have tried sisoft sandra, nothing, and the intel cpu identification utility. I need some [H]elp!

Which one is better too?

3.06GHz only came in the Northwood variety with 533MHz FSB. 3.00GHz comes in both C & E, Northwood with 800MHz FSB & Prescott with 800MHz FSB. The difference there is 512k L2 Cache versus 1MB L2 Cache.

The 3.06 that you have has 512K cache right?

well deducting that all the other northwoods have 512k L2 cache
and the prescotts have 1+ mb L2 cache i would have to say that it is a northwood, 3.0C

I had a prescott, and now have northwood, i understand the difference a little.

It is a Northwood core, 512M cache. Is the 3.0c better for overclocking?

If you have a 3.06, it's a Northwood B. I've heard those tend to be pretty bad OCers because they already use an incredibly high multiplier (23 x 133 Mhz FSB).

The 3.0C Northwood has an 800 Mhz FSB (effective), and it's a decent OCer.

But yes, with 3.06 Ghz, you have the Northy B, or 3.06B.

The C and E do not have the .06 trailing after the Ghz rating.

hmm...

well, the multiplier in both identifiers I used both said 800fsb by 15x200, so maybe i do have a C core. On the other hand, it is the Northwood core, so I dont know. Thank you everyone for your [H]elp.

Nyce. Thanks all. I am @ work, so I will try it as soon as I get home. Thanks for all your help.
