Hey guys just finished putting together the rig in my sig recently. I'm still undecided on the fans I should have on the top of my Corsair 600T SE. I want something quiet than can move a decent amount of air. Is CFM most important for a fan used on top or static pressure? Also, i currently I've got my fans as exhaust right now, but would intake be better? Lastly, does anyone know of any good 200mm fans to replace the top one with if that would be better vs my 2 120mm fans?
 
But, there are no better 120mm fans than the Gentle Typhoon AP-15 for highest volume of air moved at silent noise levels.
Seriously, everything else is like a toy in comparison. Don't waste your time/money with cheaper fans, you'll only be disappointed and want to replace them.
 
Those Cougars are quite interesting... has anyone stacked them up next to Scythe Gentle Typhoon? As above, for general cooling or air-cooling a heatsink, I've found that Scythe Gentle Typhoons are amongst the best. Noctua, Yate Loon, Delta etc... are all viable as well, but generally I find that Scythe are the best combination of quiet and cooling performance, beyond most everything else. What's best is that they're not even expensive!

Now, specifically for liquid cooling radiators, Scythe is again a great choice, but I'm to understand that if you can get a hold of them, Feser Triebwerk are the best of the best - or at least, they were at one point. I recently purchased a H100 to upgrade my cooling, so I'm trying to decide on fan upgrades myself. If Triebwerk are still the best, that' the way I'll go, but Scythe and this new Cougar are also in the running.

Edit: If the Cougar (120mm, PWM, Hydro bearing) is really as good as it says on the site: ~120 m^3/h and 2.2mmH20 static pressure, at only 18db, they're definitely the new general use champion. Scythe Gentle Typhoon is even outclassed! For radiator use, it appears they beat the Triebwerk as well (1.62mm static pressure, 104m^3/h, 21db!). Scythe Ultra Kaze, their 38mm static pressure type fan, radiator use etc... may be able to pull ahead but only when MUCH louder, and higher RPM. Looks like a new champion?

I highly doubt the Cougar is as good as 'advertised'. It really depends on how the fans are tested. Cougar is most likely using a methodology that artificially inflates the numbers they can post.

The only way to know how they really perform relative to each other, you have to wait for a review site like skinneelabs to test the fans in a controlled environment.

Also, Triebwerk isn't in the same category as GT/Scythe/Cougar... it's 55mm thick... More than twice the thickness...
 
Oh yes, that's why I cited it separately as uniquely for liquid cooling, where greater than standard depth fans are often used for high performance, especially in regard to volume and static pressure. Thus, it would be even more impressive if the Cougar can put up the numbers as listed, beating the 55mm thick Triebwerk and 38mm thick Ultra Kaze for liquid cooling.

I'm basically comparing all these statistics from the manufacturer's details, so mayhap they're all inflated or at least "coaxed" in a perfect environment? I too would like to see a side-by-side comparison for real world performance - I suppose we won't know until such occurs. However, by the reviews on Newegg, I guess there are a lot of users subjectively happy with the new Cougar products, regardless of the technicalities.
 
The Gentle Typhoons are fans that I've looked at, but the noise they generate are somewhat of a turn off for me. I'm trying to keep things as quiet as possible. I'm willing to sacrifice a bit of performance in the name of quiet since right now the bed is in the bedroom hooked up to the TV, and the wife would complain at night if it's noisy. That being said I've never seen those Cougars, but they look interesting. I'm not sure about using them though since anyone can make up numbers, and I'd need to compare to other fans first! Is the general consensus here the Gently Typhoon though? Which one in that case?
 
GT's make barely any noise. Which one you get, really depends on how much fan control you're going to have.
At 1100RPM, they are dead silent. At 1450, they're a whisper, and at 1850 they make a wooshing sound. There is no motor or bearing noise!!! The difference is astounding.

I've tried a large variety of fans. I continually bought new fans because I was always disappointed with the performance to noise ratio. Enermax Magma's were quiet, but didn't have enough pressure. YL's were great cooling, but were too loud.

I have my GT's running at 1100-1200RPM at idle, and people constantly comment that my machine is so quiet they didn't even know it was on aside from the lights. But the story is really in the numbers. At this speed, the GT's perform as well as the Magmas at about 1500RPM, and the YL's at about 1400RPM.

Anyway. If you have fan control (for example, asus allows you to control non pwm fans on the chassis fan headers based on cpu temperature with q-fan), you should get the AP-15's and just speed control them. Otherwise, the 1150's are dead silent, and the 1450's are very, very quiet.
 
as for the placement of the fans... If the fan is infront your cpu cooler then make it an intake.. if its behind the cpu cooler, make it an exhaust. If they are in the middle.. i'd do intake

you just dont want fans to be competing with the air going into the cpu cooler is all :)
