I have an Asus N550JK laptop. Currently it has a 240 Intel 530 ssd os drive and a Seagate 2 TB storage hdd. I am toying with putting in a Seagate 1TB hybrid in place of the SSD. or even another 2TB drive with some sort of Ram cache. I have 16 GB of ram. I would love 3 or even 4TB in my laptop. I don't however want to give up all my speed, That is why I am considering a Seagate SSHD.or some sort of Hdd caching software. I have a crap load of games, movies and other stuff not including what I have on external HDD. Thoughts on how to approach this?
 
You will give up a lot of speed going to the hybrid. These are nothing like an SSD. More like a hard drive with a USB stick cache for random io.
 
I know (sigh). I have a SSHD in one my other laptops, its not too bad but no ssd. I don't think laptop drives get any bigger than 2TB. I have a Samsung 840 Non Evo 500 GB. It would help a little.. Am wary of using it because of TLC degradation issues. Samsung does not admit to the older 840 s having any problem.. Does Ram caching idea have any merit? Thinking of using Diskfresh with my Samsung drives. I will believe in Samsung fix when I see it....
 
I've tried the ram caching with the 840 and honestly have seen NO real world difference. Destroys certain benchmarks, but doesn't seem to do a big of good with actual use.
