I am having quite a time trying to figure this all out, perhaps some of you can give your opinions and shed some light on my situation.

I am rebuilding my system, the specs are as follows...

Deciding on a video card is blowing my mind. Im pretty mixed up. I had finalized on the 7900GTX until I ran across these. Now ive ruled it out as an option. Wisely?

How important are pixel pipelines and memory size? The ATi has 512MB, but only 16 pipes. Whereas the Nvidia has only 256MB, but 24 pipes? However, down the line I could dual the 7900GT... I dont know which will best compliment my system?

Money isnt really an issue, im willing to spend more for quality.

The 7900GT and the X1800XT are extremely comparable in terms of performance. Since you can get the 7900GT for much cheaper, I'd say to go with that. If you want to spend the extra $50, however, go for the X1800XT with more memory. I wouldn't worry about pipes too much considering that they are completely different platforms.
 
Just keep in mind the ATi has better iq and does not require the AF like nvidia for a comparable image.

Most people set AF very low or off on ATi cards because the IQ is just that good, which means you get higher in game FPS with FSAA on without the penalty of high AF.

Other than that, the nvidia has a slightly quieter cooler, but the moise it makes has a pitch that bothers a lot of people, even though it's quieter than ATi.
