Idea(s) for mousing surface

Ok, right now I have a glass desk, which is not exactly the best mousing surface...ie...does not work at all. Up till now I've been using sheets of paper, which tend to get crapped up really easily (though they do make handy notepaper). So I had a brainwave...or two.

Get a sheet of clear plexi (1/4" thick or so), edge-lit, of course, that is the same size as the glass panel (2x3 in my case) place it over top of the glass, affix it by either placing clear rubber matting under it, or clamps, or rubber feet, whatever.

Since this material is still clear, and useless for mousing, I would scuff/sand a portion of it to use as a mousing area, probably to a grit that would allow smooth mousing yet still be opaque.

As a bonus, if this indeed works, the mousing area would also glow from the edge-lighting!

Any thoughts / opinons / ideas?
 
Save yourself the trouble and just buy a friggin mouse pad. ;)
 
That stuff in the link looks like it ahs two different colors on it which could confuse a laser mouse...

And COME ON...how cool would a boring old mousepad be?? EDGE-LIT!!!

Nobody knows if sanded plexi would work as a mousing surface?
 
Plexiglass would work fine but just to be sure make it an opaque color (one color ;) )

Well the point is to edge-light it...so...opaque would kinda be defeating the purpose. Hence the sanding in the area where I'd use the mouse, to make that surface part opaque.

Am I missing something here?
 
I dunno I've enver heard of anyone using glass as a mousepad so I dunno, he says it works but I am kinda skeptical about it.

I have the same mousepad but dont use it all the time, my palm hurts.. :(
 
well you see i used to use my wooden desk for like the past 4 years so glass is a huge upgrade to my wrist
 
Here's an idea; go inot your local supermarket and get a roll of that teflon sheeting shit for £1.50. Presto! Top of the range mousing surface for a fraction of the cost
