I was looking at my Chenbro server case. It has room for 2 power supplies. So I thought, why not get a old dead power supply, take the guts out, line it with plexi and use it as a resivor, then mount it in the 2ndary power supply location?

Seems like a good idea. Anyone ever try this?

It wouldn't leak because you would put the fully assembled res inside using silicone sealant on the corners, the top part of the power supply would come off so you can remove the whole res.

why bother with a power supply case? just mount the res to the case using the power supply bolt pattern

IMHO,

Well you can take it a step further by modding the PS case any way you want which IMO would look better than a regular acrylic res. You could also cut a vertical strip in the PS case to use as a fill indicator.

With all the trouble you would have to go through to leak proof a PSU shell, you'd be better off building an acrylic box to PSU dimensions.
