I'm just wondering if any of my fellow modders have ever tried to make a mousing surface out of teflon sheeting? I know that you can get it nice and smooth, and that it would be slick especially with the teflon skates for my mouse. Has anyone tried this or have any other ideas. I just don't want to go out and pay money for a icemat or ratpad which i hear wear out after like 6 months of heavy gaming. Or is this a stoopid idea?
 
go buy an exactmat.....i doubt this thing will wear out anytime soon.
 
Try to do it. You can become a millionaire if people like it and it gets popular. You never know :D
 
Well I just got the Teflon and cut one edge to be angled so it wouldn't be so hard on my wrist. My new mouse is comming in this week so I will be able to tell everyone how it is with a mouse with feet still. As of right now it works way better than any mousepad that I have everhad but I haven't had any that were good like a ratzpad or the otherones out there. My mx500 righ now has feet but they are so worn that the plastic on the bottom is starting to wear out. So when the mx1000 comes in I'll be able to know for sure.
 
i had to register to answer this one cause a couple of years ago when i was a young tacker, i spent hours cutting out, rounding edges and buffing up a huge bit of black perspex for me to use as my mouse pad and when i got home, i loaded up probably shadow warrior or some thing and was thouroghly dissapointed to found out that the pointer on my mouse didn't move one millimeter..................... So it began a second life as a joint rolling board! Alot of wasted time and effort!
 
Well just got my mx1000 and it tracks great far faster than i'm used, this might take a bit of practice. I only have one problem tho, while the teflon is super slick and it tracks awsome i do hear a bit of friction sound but that could be the stock feet. As soon as ThinkGeek gets some oval teflon mouse skates in hopefully that will minimize the noise. I'll post pics when i get home from work.
 
I had this same idea, glad to hear it works well. I have a different idea for the mouse though, I am just waiting on my teflon sheets though to complete it. Backordered thru Feb. :(

Just go to the hardware store and get some teflon tape. I've always found it in the plumbing department.

Do you mean the teflon tape that one puts on the threads of piping so it doesn't seize? How can that be attached to the feet?
 
My and a few friends use sheets of teflon, a lot of homewares stores sell it as reuseable baking sheets, double sided tape to your desk and youre sorted.

Yes i know it is huge but i think i will cut 4-6 inches off of it.
