IDE to SATA converter

Has anyone any experience of converting an IDE DVD-R drive to SATA using one of the IDE to SATA converters, you can get to plug on the back of the drive?
I was thinking of doing it on my computer, I know there wont be any speed gains but it should neaten up the cables.
Also will all the CD/DVD writing software still work, like Roxio or Nero?

should work fine, but i wouldnt do it unless i had the adapter sitting arround from previous usage, for the price of the adapter you could buy a round ide cable, it might run slower but were talking about a cdrom here.
 
i just use a round ide cable for my cd-rom drive.

(both my hard drives are native sata)
 
Well I got one of those IDE to SATA converters and put it on my optical drive and started the computer. It got to the Windows XP screen and stayed there with the scrolling bar scolling forever!
I removed the adapter and reconnected the drive started it up again and everything was OK.
On the plus side I then tried adding another SATA hard drive I had just bought and that worked fine.
Ahh well, computers what would we fill our time with if we did not have computers to tinker with.
I had better see about getting a refund for that adapter.
