Has anyone tried using two ide-sata converters to connect a single IDE drive to an IDE controller using a SATA cable as connection?
 
umm...why?

Follow the principle KISS (keep it simple stupid). You would be adding so many failure points and connections in, it would not be worth the time or cost.
 
Presumably for the thinner cabling.

I wouldn't try it - it would likely work, but that's two more pieces of actual hardware to fail, and four connections to come loose instead of two, and a lot more potential problems with compatibility.

yeah for the thinner cabling. after reading the other thread about consolidating all IDE drives in a single PC I thought about it some more and came to the conculsion that have lots of IDE drives with 1 cable/ drive in a single case would be a NIGHTMARE.
 
More than just 4 connections since the adaptors need external power. This adds 1 or 2 conections per adaptor: 1 connection = attached molex connector, or floppy power socket and plug from PSU. 2 = floppy connector and molex to floppy adaptor.
