IDE running at slower speeds?

Hello all. I have a question. I have an Abit IS7, rounded ata133 cables, and a wd 120gb 133 hdd. I have some questions. First off, when I boot, it says that my hard drive is running at 66. It also says my optical drives are at 33. Are these what tehyre supposed to be, and if not, can I make them go at the 100 or 133 speeds? Any help is appreciated. Thanks again.

I don't think there is ata133 western digital hd's. Only ones I know are maxtor and ata133 dont help much.

You hd's should be running at ata100 and cdroms at ata33.

Look in bios to enable ultra dma.

make sure your hard drive is running on its own channel, and make sure the BIOS has DMA enabled on all channels.

I run my Maxtor drives off a controller card...that way you KNOW it's running at full speed. I get pretty good speeds too

Your right...ATA133 is basically a marketing term from Maxtor (Maybe they should have called it ATA100+, ala AMD....ZINGGG)

Anyway, it doesn't give any performance increase over ATA100. As suggested, check your BIOS settings, and do NOT put a HDD and a CD drive on the same channel.

independent device timing allows each drive to run at its own highest speed, on the same channel

Start > Run > (type) compmgmt.msc > Device Manager > Expand IDE ATA\ATAPI controllers > DClick Primary IDE Channel > Advanced Settings > Check current transfer mode > Set Transfer mode to "DMA if available" for each device > OK.
repeat for the secondary channel

reboot repeat to > verify Current Transfer mode for each device

if that fails, change the jumpers on both to Cable Select and repeat
