IDE Raid vs. SATA Raid

I am going to start building my server soon. It is just a home server I am using for media and music so I dont need it to be blazing fast or anything. I already have a couple of Maxtor 6L300R0 300gb ide drive and a quick look on ebay shows I could get them rather cheap. So instead of going through the exspense of getting all SATA stuff I would like to use the drive I got plus pick up a few more.

I found this controller link and it states it is 4 port but will support 8 drives. So can I use two drive per line in Raid 5?

The only cons I see are some speed and wire management.

Equally matched sata and ide drives run within 5 percent of each other. Not a noticable difference. Running two drives per channel on an ide raid controller could seriously hurt performance due to the way ide drives interact with the controller.

Read the reviews on newegg for that controller. The controller is unable to rebuild a broken RAID 5 array, making it worthless as a RAID 5 controller if a drive fails.
