IDE motherboard?

I been looking around and ATA the power cable? I'm such a noob. Someone help me :(
 
ATA133 is a newer faster version of ATA100. The 133 means it supports up to 133 MBps. ATA100 only supports 100 MBps. Of course, most single drives can't do even ATA66 (66 MBps) so you won't have any problems if you install it in any modern motherboard. Most have ATA100 or ATA133.

Just use a normal cable, but make sure it has a bunch of wires in it. There are 40 pin and 80 pins cables. The 40's are 33 MBps I believe and the 80's are up to 133 MBps.
 
ATA100 and 133 represent the burst speeds (MB/s),
as transfered over the cable\bus by and to the HDDs cache
sustained transfers are the limited transfers generally 50 > 35 MB/s
bursts happen regularly but by no means constantly

Cliff Notes: as mentioned use an 80 wire cable,
there is little to no realworld difference between ATA100 and ATA133

I think I have 40 pin cable(dont wanna count). Just wanna make sure this will work and not be screwed. Heres the motherboards specs. Will the harddrive work if I get the 80 pin cables?

its 80 and 40 WIRE cables, not pins. The connectors all have 40 pins. You'll want 80 wire cables for any recent hard drive. The wires will be much thinner in the cable / denser compared to 40 wire which you may be using for cdroms.

Yep, you're right. There are still 40 real signal wires and 40 pins, the other 40 are merely to help with signal problems.
