Alright, after searching for more than 10 hours on the great Internet, I couldn't find any solution to my problem.

My setup: core duo e6850 / 2gig ddr800 crucial ballistix / p5ne-sli motherboard / western digital 250gb sata hdd / samsung sh-s202j dvd-rw / 8800 gts

Basically, my DVD-RW drive (Samsung SH-S202J) isn't being recognized by Windows XP. It shows in explorer as "DVD-RAM Drive", but won't read anything.

It is plugged in my IDE channel #1, the jumper is set as "master" and I use the end of the cable.

I tried all those combinations : switching the ribbon (40 pins or 40/80), setting the jumpers as slave or c/s, plugging it on the second IDE port. None of those worked. I'm pissed off.

It IS powered enough and the tray DOES open when I click on eject.

The drive IS being detected fine in BIOS.

I tested the drive before on another setup and it DOES work fine.

I tried the registry solution, didn't work. (link = http://forums.pcper.com/showpost.php?p=4213042&postcount=2)

What I have left is either finding a solution that no one thought about on the entire planet earth, or crushing the samsung dvd player with my car.

Thanks for your input. :)
