IDE DVD drive problem

Hi gang...love the site. I can't think of a better place to beg for help with my dvd drive problem.

Hardware:Internal 8x Nec 2500a dvd-+r.

Problem: IDE DVD drive will read/play/burn everything fine, except dvd movies I have rented or purchased. It worked fine until a week or so ago. I can capture/edit/burn/watch any dvds I make. I can play dvd data discs, like BF2. Hell I can even watch copies of backed up dvds I have made..

Tried: I have downloaded the latest firmware. I have removed the device and reinstalled. I have tried both DMA and PIO.

Any helpful suggestions would be lovely.
