I recently had a hard drive failure. I've considered making a complete upgrade to my system, seeing as I'm still using the following:

A7N8X
ATi Radeo 9500 Pro
1 Gig of RAM from god knows what brand
A dinky little 120 Gig HD from Maxtor

However after reading that DirectX 10 is just down the road and that there's going to be another serious upgrades required to make my computer Windows Vista workable, I decided to hold off. I hope that was a smart decision.

Which brings me a big concern of mine. I still need to get my computer working again, so should I bother buying an IDE Hard drive? I think the A7N8X only has 2 IDE controllers, but I'd like to know what my options are right now.

If it's the Deluxe model it has sata headers too. I'd recommend getting an sata drive. The cabling is just sooo much easier to deal with. Adding an sata controller for like $18 isn't a bad thing to have around.

I would vote for SATA + controller card (if you need one). If you look a lot of times you are going to end up paying more for a IDE drive anyways so just take that extra money "saved' and get a controller. Any of the cheap contollers should be fine for a home system.
