IDE connected HD won't install?

I just hooked up a WD 80 GB HD to my computer through an IDE Controller Card. WinXP detects it and such, but it won't install. It says I need drivers or something... How would I go about getting these drivers? The guy that sold me the HD gave me a Maxtor disk, but the damn HD is a WD, I'm not sure if this would matter anyway, but it might. If it does, where could I find some software to install this at?
 
Did you create a partition and format the drive?
If you need the WD utilities you can get them from their site.
