does it matter if round ide cables are branded? is there a harm to data if you buy a brandless IDE CABLE? or should i get a nice IDE cable from a branded company such as the ones on NEWEGG!

BTW i'm talking about brand name IDE cables. compared to generic
 
IDE cables are IDE cables, technically speaking. I'm really shocked that they haven't made Monster IDE cables yet to appease the gullible. However sometimes they are coated differently and might be easier to bend in place. They will still transfer data at the same rate.

If you're referring to aesthetics and cable management, the nice rounded ones are much better, and they are worth the extra .50 cents or $1.
 
some braded cables, say with copper, provide shielding to the cable - now if it actually does anything - thas another story.
 
Frankly, there are certain specs for IDE cables. The maximum length is specified and if you go beyond that, you can have issues, i.e. slower data transfer etc.

Ide cables are supposed to be flat to reduce interference (or so I heard). Round cables could -theoretically- increase interference and thereby reduce the data transfer rate.

In the end, I have yet to have a problem with IDE cables. [I use rounded ones as well]
 
Just quick note to add to the last post:

SFF-8049 standard for IDE cables says: 18 inches maximum cable length.
 
I have three 24" Rounded IDE cables in use, no problems yet. (4 HDDs, and 2 optical drives)
