IS it possible to have 3 sticks of RAm and still have dual channel on two of the sticks? for example.. two 512 sticks on dual channel and then one 512 that isn't? thanks

WOOOPs i posted this on the wrong section!!! could someone move this to the mainboard section!?!?

I was reading the manual and there isn't a definate answer.... . . .

That's why i decided to post

All the manual say's is. To run dual channel with 2 sticks do so and so.. and to run dual channel with 4 sticks do so and so.. doesn't say anything definate about running 3 sticks of RAM and if you can have 1 dual channel and the one stick not...

I would run just the two 512's, for a gig of ram.

More than that is nice, but I don't see it being necessary for most applications

if youd rather have the larger amount of ram than just run it without dual channel mode on. if your rather have the extra performance then keep it in dual channel with the less amount of ram.

i dont think you can run 3 sticks and be in dual channel mode,
also if you run 4 sticks on any ic7 series board pat is disabled

PAT is disabled on any i875 based motherboard when more than two sticks is installed. The reason for this has to do with stability of using PAT between 4 modules. Not to say that it wouldn't work, but Intel more than likely aired on the side of caution when they designed the technology.

But you can not run dual channel without an even number of sticks to interleave between. This has to do with bank population.

I've done benches on it and dual channel is the way to go most of the time. In rare instances more ram at a slower speed would be the better choice.
