IC7-MAX3 overstating CPU temp?

I have a 2.8C on my MAX3, and the Abit is reporting idle temps of about 45C and load temps of nearly 60C. While I do have stock cooling and the processor is overclocked (although very modestly -- right now, running at FSB217), I don't think that these numbers are what I should be seeing based on the postings of people with similar setups.

Any other MAX3 owners experience this phenomenon?

I swear I heard that the Abit boards added 10*C to the temps by error. Not sure if they fixed that or not.

Getting the same temps as you with the same mobo and chip, dunno if its an error or not but ya doing the same as yours. :(

It's a well known fact the Abit boards tend to report higher temps than other board manufacturers. As long as your system is operating fine with no burning smells, don't worry. :D

ABIT doesn't use an external temperature sensor, they instead use Intel's own built in sensor.

Applying an advanced algorithm to the output of that sensor gives you a close approximation of the ACTUAL core temperature of the Pentium 4.

All other manufacturers use an external sensor that simply measures the underneath temperature of the CPU.

This is what causes the high readings on the ABIT boards.

ABIT argues that their temperature is the only "RIGHT" one, while everyone else argues their coding is skewed and the actual temperature is about 7 to 10 c degrees less then is reported.

Nobody knows for sure, but it's obvious that the core of the CPU would be hotter then the external underneath surface.

It comes down to stability... does you system lock up or reboot randomly?

It doesn't?

Then don't worry one bit about it... until it starts saying 100c or something. :D

:D LOL.

So, it's pretty much been proven that the ABIT readings are about 7-10C higher than that of other mobos? That's a relief...

its not really proven, Abit stands by their story that other mobos arent getting true temps, it can cause an issue if your back off temp is too low. you can go to abits official board and read 20 or 30 pages of back and forth on this.

Well its proven that it reads higher. What is unsure is which method is truly correct

I disagree with yall, I think the temps are accurate, because when I used stock HS I was getting 45C Idle, and when I got my Thermalright SP94 they went down to 37C Idle. Its impossible that my temps are 27C on the mobo with with SP94.
