If it aint broke dont fix it.... if I only listened!
Ive been running my IC7 and 2.4c @ 3.4 for almost a year now. I recently (yesterday) decided to build a HTPC and decided to use the Geil PC3500 (256 X 2) thats in the above mentioned setup for use in my HTPC and I bought 2 new sticks of Kingston HyperX PC4000 for my main rig (512 X 2). Besides Ive been wanting to upgrade the memory anyway.
Here is where it gets weird. Before I was running my 2.4 @ 3.4 or should I say 12 X 283.5 = 3402 using a 5/4 mem/cpu divider so my RAM was at 226.8. I tried running the ram at higher speeds using the 1/1 ratio but didnt have much luck over 240FSB. I was happy though and life goes on.
Now for the new problem.. this Kingston RAM is currently chugging along in memtest86 running at 270FSB 1/1 - 3.24ghz, so first impressions would be damn this RAM kicks ass... but here lies the problem. I cant change the mem/cpu divider to 5/4 or 3/2 and be able to boot, all I get is the annoying beep from the motherboard and Im forced to hit reset 4 or 5 times. I cant even go back to the original settings of 283.5/226.8 that I was using with the old RAM, I only get a beep. This being PC4000 RAM it should laugh at 225.8fsb memory speeds, but alas this isnt the case.
If ANYONE has some thoughts on this please let me know, Im at my wits end and Im ready to put the Geil back in.
