IC Diamond 7/24 experiences?

I was just wondering of any first hand experience with the IC Diamond 7/24 TIM.

For reference, they are the same exact thing... the 24 tube is just comes with 4.8 grams instead of 1.5 grams.

There was some crazy claim on forzencpu.com from a person who said it dropped their i7@4Ghz load temp from 86c+ to 60c.

Other claims were a few degrees cooler than AS5, etc.
 
In my own experience, I've seen 2-5 degree centigrade drops in temps over Arctic Silver 5; it works freakin' great. Using an Athlon II X4 635 and a Cooler Master Hyper TX2 cooler, I idle at only 8-10 degrees centigrade above ambient temp, and my core temp only goes up about 11 degrees centigrade under full load...impressive, considering the TX2 isn't that great of a cooler (comparatively). Its not going to have anywhere near as drastic as a performance drop when used on the same cooler versus other high end TIM. The 20+ degree performance difference is pure B.S. I've never used it personally, but I've heard its a bitch to apply. Based off of what I've read it is top of the line, and will get you a few extra degrees cooler then other top of the line TIMs. Nothing pants droppingly fantastic, but a little better none the less.

It isn't too bad...just hold the tube under hot running water for a minute or two, then squeeze a small 4.5mm-5mm ball right on the center of your CPU. I wouldn't really recommend going the "thin coating" route...it spreads VERY easily under the pressure of a heatsink.

But yes, claims of 20+ degree drops are complete bull.
 
i got around 5c drop over AS5 using a full on water setup with lapped and polished block and cpu on a q9550

people say the drops are better on non lapped gear... that doesnt make much sense to me... its just what I have heard

I can see the drop being greater on non-lapped gear if the paste has a much better heat transfer than other stuff.

Tested. It works good. Not the best but pretty close. Shin Etsu 7783D seem to still behave better but the ICD might require more curing time.
 
It's thick as hell, and a pain to get out of the tube. You need to warm all surfaces with a hair-dryer (heatsink/waterblock, CPU, and thermal paste tube), and keep the tube submerged in HOT water.

It works somewhat well, but my x23-7783D seems to be at least as good, and a little easier (still not as easy as MX-2, which is about as easy as it gets) to work with. These pastes are just marginally better than MX-2, IMO.

I've NEVER seen more than a 4C drop from using a different TIM (and much of that could be attributed to mounting and environmental variations), but the worst I've used in recent years is AS5, which is already pretty good.

I have some older batches of IC7 sitting around... not sure how good they are now. I won't ever use them because I have the 7783D and MX2.
