Hi Everyone,

I recently procured an IBM M1015 for my OI/ZFS fileserver. I have read the flashing procedure (http://lime-technology.com/forum/index.php?topic=12767.msg124393#msg124393) and think I understand it, however I have also seen numerous people say that it fails to flash because the LSI flash software is kind of picky with motherboards. I have not yet flashed my card because, well, I only have access to one mobo with a PCIE8x slot. If the software doesn't like my mobo I'm kind of screwed. Is there a reason I couldn't just use the LSI drivers for Solaris 10 on their website? http://www.lsi.com/products/storagecomponents/Pages/MegaRAIDSAS9240-8i.aspx

Is there a way to know which mobos the utility has issues with? Should I just go for it and hope for the best? I just don't want to brick my card with no way of reflashing it. Thanks.

From my experience an optiplex 745 works perfect, pci-e x16 slot. If you can get your hands on one. :D

They work fine out of the box on Solaris, but its said you should flash them to IT mode instead of IR
I have boxes running with both and never had a problem with either.
 
It doesn't seem to work fine out of the box though on my system. When I boot into IO (build 247) it just comes up with unknown driver error. I haven't tried loading the drivers from LSI yet (I don't even have OI installed on a disk yet though). The whole thing is kind of confusing to me. I kind of just want it to work, not worry about if my mobo plays nice with the M1015. It is an all intel-based mobo (chipset, NB, SB, etc.), but it is one of the 5000 series that the KB article mentions, so I really don't want to wind up with a bricked card.

Any suggestions would be helpful.

If you cross-flash it it'll run out of the box with many OSes.

If you leave it as is with the latest IBM firmware it'll pass through individual disks just fine and work with most OSes but you need to install the drivers.
 
So I think I want to leave the IBM firmware alone, and I'm trying to install the LSI drivers from the LSI website (the 9240-8i drivers). When I do pkgadd, it says to remove existing drivers. OK, it has SUNWmegasas installed, I do pkgrm SUNWmegasas, returns saying cannot change working directory to /var/sadm/pkg/SUNWmegasas/install so removal fails. Without removing the existing driver, I cannot install the new driver, and hence no IBM 1015 working in my system. Anyone have some insight? Thanks.
