IBM data loss

Hi,

I have a 30GB IBM Deskstar IDE Hard drive, DTLA series.
That drive has some bad sectors at the beginning of the disk, but otherwise has worked okay in my old computer, serving as a temporary storage area for some files. Lots of reads and writes during at least a couple of years without problems.

Recently i upgraded to a new computer, and i moved that IBM disk to the new machine as a secondary disk. When i tried to access the disk, it said that it couldn't read the disk and asked to format it. I answered no, and rebooted.
After that, the disk was still there, i could access it, but it was empty. About 25GB of files that came from my old computer vanished without a trace.
I moved it to a different computer and the results were the same. Empty.
I tried several data recovery utilities, but all of them only showed older files and folders, deleted a long time ago. No sign of the actual contents of the disk.

Have i lost my files, or is there something i can do to recover them?
I'm using WindowsXP with SP2 on an AMD64 3500+, Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe and 2GB of RAM.
