Regardless of how each performs in term of raw processing power, can I safely assume that 2011 is still superior to IB? Thus, 2011 owner should be proud of what they have and never think of going to IB?

IB architecture will probably make it to 2011 in the form of the rumored IB-E; however, this hasn't been confirmed. The 2011 platform is and will still be vastly superior to 1155, due to the expanded features. However, at least 90% of users will not use the features exclusive to 2011, or it won't benefit them in any way.

unless you do encoding/rendering for a living 2011 is not really superior to SB (encoding/rendering , gaming) and IB is going to narrow the gap just like what 1155 did to 1366.

The problem with that comparison is, 1366 at that point in time was EOL, and 2011 was set to replace it. A proper comparison would be 1156 vs 1366. However, the gap between 1155 and 2011 is much bigger than the gap between 1156 and 1366.

If it benefits you to get LGA 2011, go for it. It really depends on what you are using the computer for.

depending on your usage there is hardly a feasible gap between 1155 and 2011

By that logic a socket 4 is no better than a 2011 if all I use is a Windows Notepad and Minesweeper. Surely you jest!

If you render video clips (editing video) a lot, is a 2011 system more beneficial than an IB?

If what you're doing can use the 6 cores, and you can justify spending extra for rendering video clips faster, then yes, get 2011. Otherwise, stick with IB.

It's meant as a halfway server/workstation platform. If you're not using the extra chipset features (which is already weak and incredibly disappointing) or don't need the extra cores and monstrous cache, then it's a pass. It's meant for folk who use their PCs for work and the extra productivity that the 2011 offers justifies the much higher price tag.

JC, think of it as a wannabe workstation. You can think of it as a poor man's workstation (because we all know how much real workstations cost).
