I've been researching some blue screen issues some computers were having regarding storage drivers and i came across these 3 drivers:
iastor
iastorV
msahci

1) Do amd chipsets use msahci or yet a another driver? amd_sata.sys, is that it?

2) is msahci just a microsoft generic ahci driver that works on any chipset?

3)whats the difference between iastor and iastorV, are they both made by intel?

4) I have a computer (thats currently BSODing) that shows all three of those in the registry (only iastor was activated) can i tell windows to use any one of those three, or will only one of them work and the other 2 give problems?

the guy at the end of this thread seems to think iastorV is intel's AHCI driver with RAID capabilities added. I still can't find an official answer anywhere, just forum speculation. My current windows7 machine i am on only shows iastorV and MSAHCI under
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services

iastorV is disabled (start != 0), MSAHCI is enabled (start = 0)

more speculation: http://communities.intel.com/thread/16867
this guy says iastorV is just the intel driver that comes with windows vista/7 by default, and that all newest Rapid Storage updates will just install iastor instead.

this sounds like its true, except why would intel split their drivers into iastorV and iastor?

I tried finding the iastorV driver for download but i can't find it anywhere, intel's website only has the iastor.sys driver in both their rapid storage regular update and their F6floppy driver.

I think you're chasing after phantoms...

Just use the newest drivers.
